Well, there was a lot of drama with the girls someone told someone else that they don’t like someone and it was very mean so they said sorry and it was all okay. the end — Emily, 10 California
Sometimes it’s hard for girls to be friends. There can be a lot of hurt feelings during recess. I like how your story ends with everyone saying “Sorry”! — Shelley
Once my friend Chez had a crush on Logan (brown hair and blue eyes) and Chez told me (blond hair and brown eyes ) and Seira (dish water blond and blue eyes). But one day after lunch on the playground Siera told Logan and his friend Jared they laughed she only ment good. I said ”back off”‘ and I’m a hero=-). — Rose
Having a crush is much more fun if you tell someone about it! But you have to be careful, sometimes it’s just too hard to keep a secret. Thanks for sending this in.– Shelley
This story really happened. Me and my friends and some others were over at the pull up bars and A lot of people crowded around to watch and play, flip, and climb. One girl that a lot of boys liked was doing olympic styled stuff. She swung on the medium-tall like bar back and forth. She let go of the bar and went up in the air. Then, she went back and forth a little bit fast she took her right hand, let go, spun around and did it the other way. One boy, Carter got 2 or 3 yard sticks away from the shortest bar and said, “This is going to be an epic fail!” He ran and jumped over the black separators and jumped in the air (Even though he was tall enough to reach the short bar) he grabbed the bar and swung, then he fell, straight to the ground. Epic Fail! — Raya, 4th grade, Demorest, Georgia
Ouch! I hope Carter didn’t get hurt. It always amazes me how easy gymnastics look when somebody else is doing it. Thanks for sending in the story, Raya, and thanks for watching! — Shelley
At recess time , Danny (a boy with black hair and brown eyes) had a big crush on Ellen (a girl with blond hair and hazel eyes). Ellen’s friend tried to get them together but Danny got nervous around her.The guys all thought the girls had cooties and didn’t want to be Danny’s friend anymore. Danny got sad and Ellen comforted him. They became a couple and Danny got his friends back. — Tommy Loopy, 4th grade, Maine
I love the way you described Danny and Ellen, Tommy. Recess can certainly be a good time to become special friends with someone. — Shelley
The girl who wont stop running every time she talks to a friend she stands in place and runs and every day she runs and runs and runs she keeps asking some of her friends wanna race but guest what she always wins and her friends complain that she keeps on wining because she runs every single day even standing in place she runs and runs and then since her friends know that she wins cause she always runs they start to run like her but then she loses when she or her friends ask her to race because they run more than her . Really!! — Shi, 3rd grade, New York
Great story, Shi! Think of how fast we would all be if we ran all the time. — Shelley
There once was a little boy who was going to pick potatoes from his moms vegetable garden. He saw a strange thing sticking up from the ground. “What is this?”,he said. It looks like a toe. So he picked it up and put it in his potatoe basket. He didn’t give it to his mom. Instead he kept it as a collection. When he went to sleep that night, he heard an awful sound, kind of like someone was saying where is my toe. Then he woke up and that voice popped out and said”YOU GOT IT” The end. — Autumn, Age 11, Springfield, MA
Oh no! Not a potato toe! That’s a new twist on “I got your nose!” Thanks for the funny story Autumn! — Shelley
Indoor Recess and everyone goes CRAZY!!! Except 2 kids who are perfect… — Emma, grade 5, Sargentville ME
It’s true that a series about Recess isn’t really complete without a rainy day indoor recess. I wonder if one of the well behaved kids was named Emma! — Shelley
Once at recess this group of people were playing this game and so was my best friend i went and asked her what game they were playing she said dance party then this boy came over to me and said you are invited to dance party at that time i didn’t know what dance party was. my friend told me it was only a group of people and it was only for special people. well then i felt embraced. so the next day i went out to recess to see this dance party game. they really just hang out in this corner of the playground sometimes they play cherry bomb and cherry bomb turtles were you can only talk in a baby voice they kept begging me to play and i wouldn’t so then we started not playing the game any more but at one point they got me to play. — Kaylee, grade 5, Illinois
Cherry bomb turtles! That’s a new one for me, Kaylee. Thinking of you guys talking in baby voices all recess makes me laugh! — Shelley
One of my ideas is that there is this one girl obsessed with fairies, and she claims that they are real, but invisible. (A sassy girl would do for the job) This girl convinces all the other girls that they are real, and then the girls convince most of the boys. Some boys say that it isn’t true, but then the girl has a breakdown. Then all the girls she convinced ran over to her to comfort her. But they can’t seem to comfort her. And that would be THE END. — Rebecca (?) via comments
We love fairies and building fairy houses. This would make a fun Recess Story! — Shelley
“There was a boy who loved to tell, he’d even tell on you if you weren’t doing something wrong! He never kept a secret and nobody liked him. ” The Girl Who Hits Everything
A girl who hits anything, like if her friend gives her something she will hit it. And then the kids are going to make her be in a game and then they’re playing soccer and the girl hits it when she was supposed to kick it. Then her team gets mad at her and she cries and the team says sorry and then she hits them in the face. She walks to her friend and her friend said” gonna hit me again” and then the friend said here’s pay back slap and then the girl never hits again wow!!!!!!!!”

“A day as a pirate it was a really hot humid rainy day in the 4th grade when 3 kids were starring at a puddle talking to each other . One said “my ship is the best!” then they started arguing me curious walked over to them to ask what they were doing “u dummy we’re playing pirate world!” I was like why play in a puddle when u can play in the rain? They said it’s funner this way! I left and talked with my friend Bailey about the situation “do u think they’re for real about this?” I said ” not sure let’s ask the boys” we walked up to a boy named Bryan and said get ur boys and come check out what Lena and Hope are doing we investigated then left to a huddle “let’s show them who’s dumb” so we all played on the play ground pretending to be pirates sword fighting yelling and acting like pirates until the bell rang in the middle of an invisible sword fight for real saved by the bell lol” — Leyla age 13
Thanks, Leyla! Pirates on the playground , what’s more fun than that? — Shelley
